New summer invitations, plus news of expansion

We recently created two new custom invitations that are perfect for summer parties. I am so in love with both of these and think they could be used for so many parties!

Any kind of lake party, cookout, beach party, or pool party…birthdays, engagements or just because!

And as fun as it is to consider that Sweet Birdie’s Nest, the business, could expand, that’s not happening yet. Instead, my little family of three is becoming four!

There will be another birdie around here come December! You can read more about the news on my personal blog.

Cinco de Mayo, a zoo party and a Derby party

This post will be short and sweet, for my toddler is screaming for her life during ‘quiet time’ today. After a week of some extra attention and the determination that she indeed does *not* need to sleep more than 10 hours a day, things are a little rough over here! I hope to get back on track with posting – it’s the end of the semester and I feel like it took me longer than usual to grade final essays and exams. I am not teaching this summer, so hopefully I can spend a little more time on the blog.

A fun weekend is coming up! Are you planning to attend (or host!) a Cinco de Mayo or a Derby party? We created some new invitations for both types of parties this weekend. Jim and I are attending a wedding tomorrow night, so we might have to have Mexican food tonight instead. {Beverly and I could eat Mexican food for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. It’s my favorite!}

We also created some very cute fiesta items for Erin‘s son Hayes’s first birthday party, which is tomorrow! I am sure she will have some fun pictures to share next week and I can’t wait to show you.

Also this weekend is Christian’s zoo party. I love this zoo animal silhouette invitation we created for Courtney. {We created the train invitations for her younger son recently.} I can only imagine how fun this party will be!

Enjoy your weekend and have fun celebrating Cinco de Mayo, the Derby or both! I’ll be back next week with some fun pictures to share.

Ladybugs, cowboys, the spa and trains

What do all of those things have in common? They’re all new designs we are excited to share with you! These collections are from parties last weekend and this one.

First up, we customized our black and red square ladybug invitation for Emmeline’s first birthday party. I love this new take on one of our favorite designs!

There’s also this adorable cowboy invitation for twins Ralph and Charlie.

I love this bachelorette invitation {it was inspired by Molly’s 2nd birthday party invitation}.

And finally, my friend Leigh is having her son’s first birthday party this weekend and we created this train ticket invitation for him.

I am still behind on posting pictures from clients’ parties. I have a few fun ones to share with you next week! Don’t forget that we *love* to see pictures from our sweet customers, so send ‘em on.

{Introducing} Four New Collections

Our successful year continues with so many new custom designs to share with you. Just this past weekend, there were four birthday parties we created custom designed invitations and more for. I am working on getting the items in the shop and am hoping to see some pictures from our clients soon! We have such kind and creative customers and I know all of these parties were fantastic.

First up is our new Sweet Soiree collection. A sweet pink, white and black color scheme with an Eiffel tower graphic created the perfect theme for Anna’s party.

Jack’s mom Emily contacted us months ago and we’ve been oh-so excited to share his par-tee with you! This golf themed invitation is high on my list of favorites!

Then there was Elle’s painting party. I love the pink and orange color combination – this invitation just seems happy and I am sure the party was as fun as the invitation!

And how cute is this vintage Curious George invitation that we created for Curious Declan?

Check out the shop for these collections and more!

Be sure to stop by later this week; we customized our owl invitation for a sweet friend’s second daughter’s birthday party this past week and Jim, Molly and I helped them celebrate. Andrea threw a super fun party and she took lots of pictures that I can’t wait to share with you.

A collection of thoughts on spring

After weeks and months of waiting for winter weather, I determined that Ol’ Man Winter wasn’t making a stop in NC this year. And then it snowed in the mountains yesterday. How crazy is that? I wore flip flops and a short sleeve dress last Thursday and yesterday, I wore boots and a sweater. It’s supposed to warm back up to almost 70 by the end of the week, and at least it’s sunny. This morning, while walking into school, Molly grins, looks up at me and says, “It’s a BEE-U-TI-FULL day Mom.” Yes it is, sweetheart. Yes it is.

We have designed some of the *sweetest* invitations for spring parties already. I’m loving a bridal shower design we’re working on, as well as a southern {think monograms!} baby shower invitation. And there’s a boy’s birthday collection that might be my most favorite ever; that is going to be one cute parTEE! {hint hint}.

I can’t wait to share the pictures from all the parties with you.

My daffodils are in full bloom and I picked up the most gorgeous smelling hyacinths at Trader Joe’s last week. I love fresh flowers, so I’ve decided this spring that I will keep some in the house, whether they’re from the yard or an inexpensive bouquet from the store or Farmer’s Market. For the price of one coffee a week, I can have fresh flowers. I hate to cut the flowers from our yard, even though I’ll enjoy them more in a vase on the table, I can’t bring myself to take them from the yard.

It’s spring break at the college at which I teach, so I’m using this week to catch up on SBN orders and grade stacks of papers that I collected before the break. I’m also trying to get back on track with keeping the house clean because it has been sorely neglected as of late. I consulted my handy-dandy cleaning checklist this morning and was able to clean the doors, door knobs, light switches and kitchen cabinet fronts in addition to replying to a full inbox! Oh, the joys of having a smaller home. I love that it doesn’t take me forever to tackle a seemingly big job. The sunny, spring-like weather has me itching to do a complete spring cleaning!

Beverly has three sick kiddos again this week! I know she’ll be glad for the less-germy warmer months to arrive soon. And the spring issue of the quarterly publication for which I am the assistant editor is in its final stages before printing, but it will go to print soon, just in time to enjoy the longer afternoons with my sweet girl!

What are you looking forward to this spring?

Cherries, Whales, Stripes and Curtains – OH MY!

We’ve been inspired in so many ways lately – the spring catalogs have Beverly and I dreaming up new design collections every night, and we’re both working on organizing our work spaces *and* making them lovely.

Here are some of this week’s inspirations:
