{Inspired} Whooo loves owls? We do!

The other day, we shared two new notecards designs with you that my friend Andrea asked us to create for her baby girl, Tate.  Tate’s nursery was inspired by the owl crib bedding at Pottery Barn Kids, which Beverly and I had both ooh-ed and ahh-ed over when our catalogs came in the mail.  I may have even jumped up and down and said “Yay!” when Andrea said she was going to use that bedding for her baby girl’s room.  I first became obsessed with owls in the fall, when I wanted this dress for Molly:

Then I saw this bedding in my Pottery Barn Kids catalog:

And then, I found this adorable hat and these plush owls:

So…after we made Tate’s notecards, we decided to create birthday party invitations for the owl collection.  We came up with three different designs and I love them all!  {For the record, Beverly and I are having a *very* difficult time deciding on Molly and Addison’s birthday themes this year…I wonder why!}

Which one is your favorite?

Sweet Tate’s Owl Notecards

Last week, I was so excited to meet my dear friend Andrea’s new baby girl, Tate. I finally was able to visit with Andrea, meet Tate and take a {not prepared by me} meal. I had forgotten how *tiny* newborn babies are and was so excited to snuggle with Tate for a while.

Before Tate was born, Andrea had asked us to create some notecards for her yet-to-be named baby girl. Tate’s nursery is so sweet; Andrea used the owl bedding from Pottery Barn Kids and incorporated the tan and pink on the walls, the rug, the changing pad and the glider. Using the nursery theme for our inspiration, we came up with these folded notecards:

this is the design Andrea chose for Tate

{We of course printed Tate’s name on the cards – Andrea and James didn’t share the name until Tate was born!}

Last year, we created these initial notecards for Tate’s big sister, Rae:

Thanks, Andrea, for asking us to create these notecards for your girls!

{Birth Announcements} Black and White Damask

I finally had Molly’s birth announcement framed a few months ago, only 16 months after I sent them out.  And while I still don’t know where I want to hang it, along with other treasured framed items {her silhouette, new born picture, and one-year portrait}, I do love to look at the now-framed announcement and remember the entire nursery planning process. The announcement was inspired by Molly’s nursery and I even carried the black and white theme into some of our new baby gear and accessories.

Years ago, before children were even on my radar, I fell in love with a black, white, and hot pink crib bedding set at a local boutique.  I told my mom that if I ever had a baby girl, I wanted to use that color scheme in her nursery.  I loved how sophisticated and un-babyish it was. If you could see my house, you would know right away that I am not a pastels person.  While I think they’re beautiful, I am drawn to deeper, darker and brighter colors.  I also love the crispness of black and white.

Fast forward many years later and I am pregnant with my baby girl.  Choosing the bedding and furniture was easy – all black and white.  I found an adorable rug in the perfect shade of hot pink.  We painted the walls the same shade of hot pink and did a tone-on-tone stripe with flat and glossy paint.  And we had beautiful bird themed accessories – a lamp, paintings, and curtain rod finials.  The only thing missing was a chair.  I found a beautiful black and white damask fabric that I became obsessed with and wanted to cover an upholstered rocker/glider with it.  However, we couldn’t figure out how to pull that off for less than the price of a small car.  So, I found a white upholstered chair that is so dreamy and Beverly helped me incorporate the fabric through a throw pillow and the crib sheet.  It ended up being the perfect amount of damask!

So naturally, when it was time to design and create MJ’s birth announcement, black and white damask was the obvious choice!

{Are you looking for a custom birth announcement?  We’d love to work with you to create the perfect announcement to introduce your little love to the world!}

{Sweet Parties} Jill’s Baby Shower

In the midst of designing holiday cards, we had a few baby shower invitation requests that were so much fun to work on!  Baby showers are so much fun!  We hope to have pictures of all of them to share with you in the next month or so.  The first shower was for Jill.  Her sisters-in-law hosted a sweet party in her honor to help her prepare for the newest addition to their family.  Jill and her husband did not find out the gender of the baby, so Becky and Karen went with a cheery green and yellow color theme and chose one of my favorite invitation designs:  the crib silhouette with a damask border.

The girls did a great job on the decorations.  They took the invitation to a local bakery, Edible Art, and the cake turned out so cute!

And how fun is the mantle decoration, with the clothesline of baby items?

Thanks, girls, for sharing the pictures of the lovely shower and for using Sweet Birdie’s Nest for the invitations.  We wish Jill the best as she enjoys this last month of her pregnancy.

{Holiday Cards} Grey Damask

You may remember my obsession with grey…so of course we had to figure out how to use this elegant, go-with-everything color for some of our holiday card designs.  I am also obsessed with the damask pattern (our nursery fabric, moses basket fabric, car seat cover, and birth announcements are black and white damask), so I was thrilled to incorporate that too!

I also love these grey cards:

They’re a little more playful than the damask design but still so different from your traditional holiday card!  So, what do you think?  Do you love these grey holiday cards too?  Visit our Etsy shop to see the rest of our holiday collection!
