{Sweet Parties} Carly’s Dino-mite Celebration

One of our sweet repeat customers, Dione, recently contacted us about her daughter Carly’s 5th birthday party. They had decided to have the party at a local natural history museum and wanted to use our dinosaur collection. We tweaked the colors a bit, changing the blue to turquoise, and Dione & Carly were both please with the results! We got some pictures from Dione via email the other day and I might have squealed when I saw them. Everything turned out SO cute! {And you must check back, because she sent pictures from her other daughter’s birthday party and a baby shower that I can’t wait to share with you!}

I think it can be so hard to make the party room at a venue personal and customized, but by working *with* the colors and theme and using lots of color through table coverings, signs, ribbons and even the utensils, one can really transform a big, blah room into a festive place!

Look how cute the birthday girl and her sister are checking out the cake.

One of the party favors were dinosaur shaped crayons from a fellow Etsy shop. I love when customers want the coordinating bag toppers for the cellophane bags. I’m not sure exactly, but that’s one of my favorite things we offer. So simple, but cute!

Y’all – Dione made those lunch boxes. She included a turkey & cheese sandwich cut into a dinosaur shape, Cheetos, and a mandarin orange cup. Then she used our stickers to keep the ribbon ‘tied,’ so the party-goers didn’t have to mess with a knot. And do you see what I mean about COLOR? All the colors are so fun and really tie the party together.

What party isn’t complete without sweet treats?! The dinosaur cake, cupcakes and dino shaped Rice Krispy treats were a hit, I’m sure. {And now I totally want a Rice Krispy treat. Totally random, but he hospital where I delivered Molly had delicious ones; we’d get one during the break at our birthing classes, and then I sent Jim down to the cafeteria to get one every day after M’s birth!}

Thank you, Dione, for asking us to create these items for Carly’s birthday and for sharing the awesome pictures. We can’t wait to share the other parties, too!

How did it become January 23 already?

Seriously. Where do the days go? Beverly and I have had an awesome {and awesomely busy!} January with Sweet Birdie’s Nest and life in general. I celebrated a birthday earlier this month and Beverly’s older son, Jackson, turned nine a few days later. I’m definitely not old enough for J to be nine! {I still remember the day he was born and cannot believe how much I love that kid! All of Beverly’s kid, and my own at that, but still…}

Molly {my only kiddo} and Jackson {Beverly’s oldest} have both been sick, which means they’ve been home from school, and the semester has started back {I teach at a local college}, in addition to a record number of orders for Sweet Birdie’s Nest. We are constantly blown away by our clients and marvel over the repeat customers and referrals we receive regularly! We seriously cannot thank you enough.

A few fun things from this month include this fun invitation we created for Evie’s birthday party. You have to check out this indoor park! I wish we had something like this in Charlotte!

And take a look at this safari themed first birthday party. I am in love with the color scheme.

Our bow-tie collection has been really popular this month, and we have had several custom requests. I just packaged and sent one of the new collections and I think it’s too sweet not to give you a sneak peek:

See?! Total cuteness! Be on the lookout for the full collection in the shop soon!

{Celebrations} Happy birthday, Beverly!

Today is Beverly’s birthday!

Beverly is not only one-half of Sweet Birdie’s Nest and my dear friend, she’s my sister too! I was trying to find a picture of Beverly for today’s post but the only recent one I have of her is from Addison’s birthday party, as she’s coming down the water slide. And something tells me she wouldn’t want that displayed here.

Beverly, I hope you enjoy your day and gets lots of love from your kiddos! I love you!

{Sweet Parties} Addison’s Mermaid Party: the food table and other details

Did you miss the first post about Addison’s Mermaid party? Be sure to check it out here!

Beverly put together such a fun menu for Addison’s party! She had Zaxby’s chicken nibblerz, which we *love,* served in a fun shell shaped bowl and tuna salad served with croissants, tomatoes and lettuce. She ordered the cutest candy/nut cups in which she served oyster crackers and goldfish pretzels, and then there were star-shaped watermelon skewers and chips and dip. Applesauce squeezers rounded out the menu for the kiddos. Sparking pink lemonade, sweet tea and juice boxes were served to drink.

I love the coordinating food label tents. I think they’re one of my favorite items we make!

We can’t forget about the delicious cupcakes!

Bubbles are such a great party favor. What kid doesn’t love bubbles? We go through a couple of bottles of bubbles a week, I feel like!

I think Addison had a blast at her party. We were so glad to be there to celebrate with her! {I totally wish they made that dress in MY size!}

I love you, Addi bird!

{Sweet Parties} Avery’s Princess Castle Party

We love to customize our Princess Fairy and Castle collections for our sweet customers, and we love to see the pictures from their parties even more! Today, we got an email from Avery Kate’s mom Amy with some pictures from Princess Avery’s third birthday party. Avery’s party was at The Wonder Place, a super-fun looking playspace in Little Rock, and then they continued the party back at home. Amy said that Avery loved the decorations so much and didn’t want to take them down. Thanks so much for sharing your pictures, Amy, and for choosing Sweet Birdie’s Nest to create the invitations, banner, door sign, cupcake toppers and door sign for your special day!

I love the fun castle cake and the use of the pink fabric to add some color!

I love that polka dotted ribbon and how Amy used the stickers to carry the theme throughout the party.

Look at that cutie! I hope she enjoyed her Princess Castle party.

{Sweet Parties} Sloan’s Racing Party

One thing is for sure: Little boys love things that go. Cars, trucks, planes, trains and especially race cars! Sloan’s mom, Hannah, contacted us a while back and told us that she loved our Vroom Vroom collection *but* that she was hoping to have a race car party for her son’s first birthday. We were excited to create a custom design for her and think that the end result is just too cute!

Sloan and Molly share the same birthday, just one year apart. So fun!

I love the checkered flags! Such a cute, simple way to carry the theme throughout the party. And I love it when the cake coordinates with the paper products. Such a little detail, but impressive.

And every one-year-old needs a smash cake, right?

Thanks, Hannah, for asking us to create the invitations, a banner, favor tags, and a door sign for Sloan’s party! Everything turned out so cute and I hope your little guy enjoyed his day!

Menu Monday

We have a special party taking place at our house this weekend and I’ve been busy planning, making lists and organizing the details. I’m slightly obsessed when it comes to planning a party and I love to think about the table scape and menu weeks in advance. Depending on the theme of my parties, I like to incorporate the theme into the food and drinks.

One of the first things I did after learning about Pinterest {follow our boards by clicking on the  ’P’ social button on the right!} was create a board for Molly’s birthday party, starting with pink and orange food ideas. Now, my only problem is not overdoing it; I want to keep the menu simple and kid friendly, but still festive.

With all of the great inspiration I found online, I’m thinking about Zaxby’s chicken sandwiches {not orange or pink , I know, but very yummy!}, fruit cups {strawberries/peaches/cantaloupe/watermelon/raspberries/mandarin oranges}, Goldfish for the kiddos, loaded potato salad, strawberry cupcakes and cookies with orange and pink icing. And I can’t wait to serve ice cold Izze in clementine and blackberry flavors. I love any excuse for fizzy flavored drinks.

What do you think? What else does my menu need?

We want to welcome Stephanie from Beyond Words Designs as our first sponsor!

She creates canvas designs for all the special events in your life. I love the names and initials from her Fanciful collection:

But the 5×5 canvases from the Petite collection are definitely my favorite. I’d love to have a few of these to tuck around the house, especially in Molly’s room or the kitchen. Wouldn’t these be cute for the holidays? Just think of the places you could tuck these festive canvases!

{Sweet Parties} Ella Kate’s Carnival Party

Last year, we created the bright circus invitation for my dear friend Julia’s daughter’s birthday party and it has become one of our most popular invitations. Recently, Amanda contacted us to create some paper products for her daughter Ella Kate’s birthday party and she was kind enough to share some pictures of the party.

The party was complete with a sno-cone machine, candy apples, cotton candy and a clown who made balloon animals!  I just love those lanterns Amanda hung in the tent, don’t you?  Ella Kate looks adorable in her smocked bubble suit and those candy-sprinkled marshmallows look delicious.  Thanks so much for sharing your pictures, Amanda!

AND, we created these flat notecards for Ella Kate’s thank you notes.  Aren’t they so cute? You can find them in our Etsy shop now!

Thanks again, Amanda, for using Sweet Birdie’s Nest!  We had a lot of fun working on Ella Kate’s party papers with you.

Surprise, surprise!

2010 has been the year of surprise parties!  We attended a surprise party for Meredith in April, Bev and Ben just hosted a surprise party at their house, we created two surprise party invitations in the fall, and I just had a surprise party for Jim (you can read about how that worked out here!).

These are the simple surprise party invitations we created for Jim’s party and Beverly’s friend Dave’s party.  They are completely customizable – we can change the colors and font so they’re suitable for your party!  Look for these invitations in our Etsy shop today.

{Sweet Parties} Rae’s Farmhouse Party

Our dear friend Andrea wanted to host a farm theme birthday party for her daughter Rae’s second birthday.  Like her mom and aunts, Rae loves horses, so that was the inspiration for the invitations, decorations, and the yummy ice cream cake!  Andrea has the perfect backyard for a party and she served pork bar-be-que sandwiches with all the right sides – macaroni and cheese, slaw, and watermelon!

Hay bales, red and white fabric, a fun horse balloon, and red tissue pom-poms completed the fun decorations.  And the party circles were a perfect touch on the mason jars and flower vase.  Andrea wrapped raffia around the jars and vase and attached the party circles:

Thanks for letting us create the invitations for your family’s very special day, Andrea!
