Fun Friday: $15 dresses and chocolate chunk cookies

Y’all, I seriously squealed when I saw the Tea Collection‘s newest promotion…$15 dresses {and $10 t-shirts for boys}. There’s a little bit of work involved, but just a little! You have to go to their Facebook page and vote for your favorite girl dresses and/or boy tops.

Once an items receives 1,000 likes, it will go on sale next week! I have already ‘liked’ several dresses that I’m hoping to snag for Molly for next year {seeing as how she already has several for this year!}.

Vote for your favorite girls dresses and boys tops to be sure that your favorites go on sale. Happy Liking!

And, have you had the deliciousness that is Chick-fil-a’s new chocolate chunk cookie? If not, get yourself to a Chick-fil-a right away and try one. You won’t be disappointed.

It’s {almost} summertime…

and the living’s easy. Unless you’re at work-at-home-mom whose kids are out of school for the summer!

Beverly and I have been thinking about and discussing how to manage our business + kids at home all day, every day. Since we don’t want to completely ignore either aspect of our lives, we have to come up with a creative and workable solution that allows us to continue to meet the needs of our wonderful customers but also be real moms to our super special kiddos.

Since a good bit of our business comes from moms like us who are trying to have it all, we know you understand our dilemma!

Starting next week, we are going to close the shop Friday-Monday until school starts back in August.

Additionally, we ask that if you are looking for a custom design to allow up to two weeks for us to complete the designs.

In all likelihood, a lot of work will still take place on Friday mornings or Sundays after dinner, but if the kids want to go to the pool or the museum, we want to be able to say YES to them instead of plopping them in front of the tv with their third snack of the morning. {I’m not the only one who distracts with food, am I? Please tell me I’m not!}

So, what does this mean for you? It means if you wait until Friday to order cupcake toppers that you need on Sunday, you most likely won’t get them. Or if you email us on Monday for a completely custom invitation plus all the trimmings and you need it tomorrow, well, we probably won’t be able to do that either.

We have some AMAZING customers, many of whom are repeat clients and/or send lots of referrals our way and as much as we like to meet all of your needs, we have been neglecting some Very Important People’s needs along the way.custo

We know you understand, and we hope that this arrangement is successful for everyone. We may tweak our schedule as the summer gets underway, but the bottom line is that we didn’t want to close up shop for the summer because we love what we do and we love to create things for you!

Let us know if you have any questions! We look forward to working with you soon.

{Sweet Parties} Mallory’s Under the Sea Birthday Party

Kim contacted us a while ago to create some fun items for her third daughter Mallory’s first birthday party. They were having an intimate family party during a beach trip, so she wanted to go with an Under the Sea theme, using pink and green as the main colors. We used all kinds of fun sea creatures: a whale, octopus, crab, sea horse and starfish.

We were more than happy to start working on this collection because it is too cute!

The party was this past weekend, so Kim was sweet enough to share some pictures with us on Monday.

You have to check out this watermelon sand bucket Kim made {there’s a better picture on her Facebook page, so I could see that the melon pieces were cut into shell shapes} = So fun!

This collection is adorable for any summer birthday celebration, and would also be cute in blues and greens for a boy’s party.

Kim, thank you so much for asking us to create these items for Mallory’s very special celebration. We enjoyed working with you, as always!

{Sweet Parties} Hayes’s First Fiesta

We created such fun items for Erin’s son Hayes’s first birthday party, which had a fiesta theme since his birthday is on Cinco de Mayo. As usual, I enjoyed seeing all of Erin’s pictures and hearing about her plans for the party. She’s quite the event planner!

There was a fiesta bar from Moe’s (so brilliant, instead of trying to make everything yourself!), Mexican-themed desserts and cupcakes, and so many fun decorations including pinatas and these cocktail umbrella topiaries.

Erin displayed Hayes’s monthly pictures {which you know I love!} and asked us to create little tags with the months in Spanish. She had thought of every.little.detail.

The party favors were these little cacti that she wrapped in colorful paper – so festive and easy!

There are a *lot* more pictures on Erin’s blog, so please pay her a visit to see all of the wonderful details from the day!

{Sweet Parties} Phelps’s Train Party

Our sweet friend Leigh contacted us a while back, wanting a train ticket invitation for her son Phelps’s first birthday party. We had just created some brighter train invitations for another client, but Leigh was looking for something softer, more vintage-y. We ended up with a die cut invitation to more closely mimic the ticket shape and Leigh used a hole punch to punch the date at the bottom of the ticket.

The party was at a local park, which Leigh raved about – it was so easy and affordable. What a great combination, right? Phelps and his sister Jane wore smocked train t’s, but I don’t have a good picture of those to share with you.

The menu consisted of Zaxby’s Nibblerz and homemade potato chips, watermelon, chips and homemade salsa and cupcakes, of course! There were also some Melting Moments, which are these to-die-for, melt-in-your-mouth confections that our friend Alison said had to be just butter and sugar, and maybe a little flour. I ate so many of those at the party that I felt sick afterwards. {Which prompted the walk that resulted in Molly’s visit to the ER!}

There were conductor hats and train whistles for all!

Leigh, thanks so much for asking Sweet Birdie’s Nest to create these special items for your family’s special day! As always, we were honored to be a part of the celebration.

Cinco de Mayo, a zoo party and a Derby party

This post will be short and sweet, for my toddler is screaming for her life during ‘quiet time’ today. After a week of some extra attention and the determination that she indeed does *not* need to sleep more than 10 hours a day, things are a little rough over here! I hope to get back on track with posting – it’s the end of the semester and I feel like it took me longer than usual to grade final essays and exams. I am not teaching this summer, so hopefully I can spend a little more time on the blog.

A fun weekend is coming up! Are you planning to attend (or host!) a Cinco de Mayo or a Derby party? We created some new invitations for both types of parties this weekend. Jim and I are attending a wedding tomorrow night, so we might have to have Mexican food tonight instead. {Beverly and I could eat Mexican food for lunch and dinner 7 days a week. It’s my favorite!}

We also created some very cute fiesta items for Erin‘s son Hayes’s first birthday party, which is tomorrow! I am sure she will have some fun pictures to share next week and I can’t wait to show you.

Also this weekend is Christian’s zoo party. I love this zoo animal silhouette invitation we created for Courtney. {We created the train invitations for her younger son recently.} I can only imagine how fun this party will be!

Enjoy your weekend and have fun celebrating Cinco de Mayo, the Derby or both! I’ll be back next week with some fun pictures to share.

Ladybugs, cowboys, the spa and trains

What do all of those things have in common? They’re all new designs we are excited to share with you! These collections are from parties last weekend and this one.

First up, we customized our black and red square ladybug invitation for Emmeline’s first birthday party. I love this new take on one of our favorite designs!

There’s also this adorable cowboy invitation for twins Ralph and Charlie.

I love this bachelorette invitation {it was inspired by Molly’s 2nd birthday party invitation}.

And finally, my friend Leigh is having her son’s first birthday party this weekend and we created this train ticket invitation for him.

I am still behind on posting pictures from clients’ parties. I have a few fun ones to share with you next week! Don’t forget that we *love* to see pictures from our sweet customers, so send ‘em on.

Prayer Cards – a Sweet Baby Shower Activity

Yesterday, I shared images from a pretty and preppy baby shower. For this same shower, Erin asked us to create prayer cards for the shower guests to complete for the new baby. I’ve seen versions of this activity on the internet and can imagine that friends and family write the sweetest things! What a wonderful keepsake for years to come. Erin said they were going to collect the prayer cards and put them in an album for Caroline to take home. How fun would it be to share the prayers with your child years later? I would imagine she would love to know what people prayed for her before she was even born!

We can create these to coordinate with any of our shower invitations!

{Sweet Parties} Caroline’s Pretty and Preppy Baby Shower

Our friend Erin contacted us last month for invitations and other items for her dear friend Caroline’s baby shower. Erin and the other hostesses wanted some simple and sweet, but not babyish. They had the best color scheme in mind: green, pink and a turquoise-y blue.

We designed a simple invitation with the requested colors and were able to incorporate Caroline’s monogram.

The shower was a dessert shower. Don’t you think that’s just so perfect and easy and sweet? I wish I could have one of the dipped pretzels right now! Erin told us the poms over the table are now in the baby’s nursery, over the changing table.

I love those large party circles we created; they make such easy coordinating centerpieces. Just pop a few of them in a flower pot and voila! And are you swooning over the monogrammed petit fours like I am?

Even the beverage station was decorated so sweetly. I have one beverage dispenser, but what a great investment to have a few that match or coordinate, seeing as how one usually serves more than one type of drink at a party. The circle banner was a custom request and is a nice change from our square or pennant banners!

I have one more part of this shower to share with you, so be sure to check back tomorrow for a sweet shower activity!

Thanks so much, Erin! We appreciate your continued support and always love to see how you bring a party to life!

Yes, we’re still here!

We’ve been MIA lately, but we’re not sitting around with our feet up for sure! Beverly’s kids’ school year is quickly coming to an end and there are *so many* events and activities at the end of the year. I had forgotten what all goes on at the close of a school year. My semester at the college is winding down too, but not before collecting final essays and administering final exams. One of my students asked me how many more times we would meet and he was shocked when I told him three classes and the exam period, for a total of four times (after I refrained from telling him to check his syllabus!).

We have once again had a wonderfully busy month working on so many fun designs for our clients. We actually closed the shop for a few days so we could catch up on custom design orders. I have several fun blog posts coming up to highlight a few showers and parties we’ve created products for, but in the meantime, I thought I’d share some of the pictures of our crew from Easter. Beverly sent me the pictures last week, but I hadn’t had a chance to download them until just now.

They are too funny. We wanted them to sit together, but Molly and Addi immediately laid down so instructed the boys to do the same. They didn’t stay there for long, and the next series of pictures looks like a wrestling match.

Oh, how I love these sweet, smart, silly nephews of mine. They just.won’t.stop.growing. It’s killing me.

And I love that these sweet girls love each other. Molly calls Addison on her play phone at least once a day. So cute.

Don’t forget to check back soon for some fun party pictures!
